Evie Dunville was born in the beautiful K’jipuktuk (Halifax), Nova Scotia. She wears a lot of hats – sometimes jeweller, sometimes doula, sometimes poet, sometimes singer, sometimes a writer – undeniably a hiker and an Art Therapist.

Evie believes in creating a sustainable and accessible environment for creativity and mental health to flourish. Art Therapy can offer a path for all individuals to connect with themselves, reducing anxiety while increasing their self-confidence, self-awareness and self-esteem, and overall creative wellness. She works in a relational, humanistic and feminist frame. This intentional client-centered approach to healing permeates each session. Every individual is met with respect, faith, and acceptance in a safe space, where they can access their voice. Evie focuses much of her trauma-informed work on supporting children, adolescents, and teenagers as they navigate their complex emotional journeys, and provides an open and accessible space for the neurodiverse, and those with different abilities and challenges. Evie welcomes 2SLGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities as an advocate and ally. She continues learning each day, from her clients, from the earth, through colleagues and other professionals.

Evie began her journey to Art Therapy at Mount Saint Vincent University (2004), completing a BA in Psychology and English, followed by a quick trip around the world, teaching English in South Korea. Once back in Nova Scotia she completed a BFA in Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing from NSCAD University (2010), before earning her certification as an Art Therapist from the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute (2016). Evie has achieved registered status as an Art Therapist (2022) and can now offer supervision to other Art Therapists and has been accepted into the NSCCT as a candidate (#RCT-C23-083).

What is Art Therapy:

Expect hands-on and self-reflective art making. No art experience required.

Art Therapy is a symbolic healing practice based on the tenets of intentionality, respect, faith, acceptance and presence. When words are not enough this head, heart and hand guided creative process utilizes these healing and self-reflective aspects to explore a sensory and metaphoric experience beyond the limitations of language; permitting a direct expression of inner knowledge to foster reconciliation and self-awareness.

With a firm basis in relational theory and developmental psychology Art Therapy is valuable for prevention, treatment and rehabilitation when working with children, adolescents and adults.
